Share your talents in the Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies (WGSS) Talent Showcase! The WGSS version of Project Oakton’s Voices intersects literary arts, humanities and performance studies. The Showcase takes place on March 20, 2024.

The Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies Department (WGSS) collaborates with the Creative Writing Program, the LGBTQIA2+ Advisory Council, the Performing Arts Department and the Peace and Social Justice Committee host the WGSS Talent Showcase. This year’s theme is liberation.

Participants will develop monologues, poetry, songs, dramatic scenes, visual representations and/or dance performances which will then be staged for a live audience in a multidisciplinary performing arts show for Women’s History Month. This project is about finding our voices and sharing them broadly within the Oakton community in the name of peace, justice, mutual understanding, healing and connection.

Showcase submission details:

We are seeking interesting, truthful, and highly engaging thought pieces from women-identified and LGBTQ+ individuals. People of color and those with transnational identities and perspectives are strongly encouraged to submit. If requested, submissions can be anonymous when produced to keep everyone safe. Pieces that do not center on liberation and the goals of peace, justice, mutual understanding, healing and connection will not be considered.

If you are interested in submitting a piece of writing (1-2 pages), doing a short performance piece, sharing relevant artwork and/or creating a one-minute or less audio story, please fill out the Google Form. If you have questions about the form or the Showcase, please contact Tina Fakhrid-Deen at creativewriting@oakton.edu.

Please submit your materials by February 23, 2024.

For questions about the submission process or the event, please email creativewriting@oakton.edu.
