For Kathie Shaw, the process of working in series has provided a framework that has followed her personal reflections over time in both form and content. The groups of paintings in this exhibition serve as chapters in which she reflects on global external events and interests as varied as climate change and Tibetan Buddhism. The medium used in each series becomes an integral part of its visual language. Her use of media such as charcoal on canvas and Crayola crayon—as well as the more customary oil, various inks, gouache and watercolor—reinforces the implied content. While her work leans toward the abstract, her series titles such as Tipping Point, Chaos, Sanctuary, Rainbow Body Mirage and Origin among others, provide hints as to the meaning behind the image.

The Public Reception takes place on Thursday, May 8, 2025, from 5 - 8 p.m.

Viewings take place from May 8 through June 27, 2025, during regular museum hours.
