In his 2019 book, Got Solidarity? Challenging Straight White College Men to Advocate for Social Justice,  Jorg  Vianden, Ph.D., reports the results of the Straight White College Men Project, a nationwide study of how heterosexual white men experience or perceive campus and community diversity issues, chronicling their upbringing in families and schools; their perspectives on race, gender, and sexual orientation; and their trepidations on noticing and challenging oppression. Their stories lead to a renewed understanding of how white disengagement hinders progress through a just society.

This workshop for Oakton staff, faculty, and administrators begins with a bit of self-work and consciousness-raising before offering strategies for engaging with their students and peers with privileged identities in conversations and initiatives around diversity, equity, and social justice.

Lunch is provided.

The Office of Access, Equity, and Diversity (OAED) hosts this workshop. The workshop is presented as part of Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
